Frequently Asked Questions

When will I know if my show has been selected?

Applicants will be notified in September 2018 if their work has been selected for the November 2018 held Snapshot presentations.

I’m not sure if my submission went through, what should I do?

If your application has been submitted you will be taken to a screen that says you have been successful in submitting your application. Once you have submitted your application you will be sent a notification email that your application has been received. Please make sure to check your junk mailbox for this email. If you still have not received a confirmation email, you may contact us at

My application won’t submit, what can I do?

If your application is taking too long or doesn’t seem to be processing, check your file sizes. Music files must be mp3 format and a maximum of 8MB. All other documents must be word document files. Document names cannot have any punctuation or symbols. Please note that if you have not filled in all of the fields and you click ‘submit’ all attachments will be wiped and you will need to reload files.

Can I send additional materials in the mail?

Our evaluators come from all across Australia, so we only accept submissions online. If you have any additional materials you would like us to see, like images, links or reviews, upload them to the ‘Support Materials’ section of the Submission form.

My show isn’t finished, can I submit it?

Due to the timing of the NMA program the musical submitted needs to be complete. If you your work is not complete please look at the FIRST LOOK program.

Do you accept musicals without original scores?

‘Jukebox’ musicals, or shows without original scores are not eligible for the NMA program. Shows may have scripts adapted from existing source material.

Will I get feedback on my work?

New Musicals Australia does not offer feedback for submitted works not selected to go to the snapshot stage.

My work is based on a Book / Movie / Play, do I need to have the rights?

In order to meet the timelines of NMA you will need to have secured the rights in order to submit your work and be able to show evidence of a licensing agreement with the original rights holder.

I have submitted my musical previously, can I submit the same musical for a different round?

Yes you can re submit your musical if the work has been worked on in the interim.

My show has been on the stage before, am I allowed to submit it?

Shows that have been workshopped or presented in a limited non-commercial environment within the last five years are eligible for submission.

Who will be producing my show?

New Musicals Australia is partially funded by the Australian Arts Council funding body, for the purpose of workshopping and presenting chosen works. However this will be done in conjunction with Hayes Theatre Co and other producing partners as required. Details of this will be confirmed on a case by case basis for the chosen musical.
